F.A.& Anna M.H.: Libri e Poesie

Mitchell-Hedges non amava solo l’avventura. Fu uno scrittore prolifico, ha composto centinaia di versi, molti dei quali hanno come argomento principale l’amore: amore per la vita, per la natura, per l’avventura, per l’umanità.

Create!
Place your feet squarely on the earth, my friend,
But let that not prevent your eyes
From searching for the farthest stars.
Render the little things of life their due,
But let that not confine your mind
Within a cage of earthly bars.
Offer your bread to him who tries and fails,
But let that not prevent your hand
From doing deeds more brace, more fair.
Live in a cottage with a fence around,
But spread yourself across the world from there;
And, in the swift days’ onward-rushing spate,
Waste not the hours –
Create!

Salute
I love the man who has it in his heart
To sing a joyous song. I love the man
Whose mind is like an arrow, straight of flight,
Seeing the beautiful, the real, the right.
I love the man who, when in sorry plight,
Flings up his head toward the hidden light,
And sends his laugh into the infinite.
I love the man – oh God, I love the man
Who fights, and knows the bravest way to fight!
