First public display
Wednesday, November 26th, 2008
During the Histories & Mysteries Conference in Edinburgh, November 22-23, 2008, the skull went on public display, for the first time ever. In the week leading up to the event, especially radio was devoting attention to the future arrival of the skull – part of a weekend-long celebration of true “Indiana Joneses”, people who have taken on the mysteries and brought them into the realm of history. The skull was the star attraction. Bill Homann related how he was fulfilling the late Anna Mitchell-Hedges wishes, namely that as many people as possible could see the skull. In this enterprise, he was helped by Cris Winter, co-organiser of the event, and a friend of Sammy for almost two decades.
Bill Homann had to overcome a battle with pneumonia in the week leading up to the event and was immediately confronted, on Saturday, with a group of newspaper photographers. It meant that after The Times and the Edinburgh Evening News had run with the story on Saturday, all other British Sunday papers and media (e.g. the BBC and Sky websites) reported on this unique event.
During the public display, no less than one thousand people came to see the skull. The crowd was a mixture of excited – and the occasional frightened – children, as well as many adults who seemed as enthralled by the unique artefact as the younger visitors. Indeed, all the media’s attention meant that if the public display would have lasted longer, several more thousands would have filed past the object.
Apart from the skull itself, thanks to Harry Oldfield’s PIP camera, the audience was welcomed to an “energetic” display. For eight hours, the energy levels of and around the skull were observed, and some interesting anomalies were noted - some of which were pointed out to the audience.
The skull was also the main attraction of “11:22, The Happening”, two well-attended one hour sessions, whereby people were invited to relax and meditate - if inclined to do so - aided by music visualisation, in the presence of the skull.
